Debt Settlement Florida

If you've been seeking debt settlement in Florida as an option to get rid of your debt problems faster, then you likely already know how many different companies are out their that claim to be able to help. The reality is though, that many of these companies do just make claims. To get the best debt settlement, you're going to want to choose the Florida debt settlement company that will really work for you.

On this site you'll find out everything you need to know about debt settlement in Florida. We cover what it takes to qualify, Florida debt settlement laws, and we even make some recommendations on where to get a free consultation to get you started.

Do I Qualify For Debt Settlement Florida?

The first question that needs to be answered is whether or not you qualify for Florida debt settlement. This is really just about determining whether or not settlement is the right option for you.

First of all, you need to know that debt settlement only works with unsecured debts.  That is, it will work to reduce the balance of credit card debts and any other personal debt that doesn't have security attached to it. Debt settlement will not work for mortgages, auto loans, or other secured debts. It also won't help you with tax debt or student loan debt.

Now that you know that, here are the two qualifications for Florida debt settlement.

        1. You need to have more than $10,000 in unsecured debts.
        2. You need to either be behind on your payments now, or about to become behind (basically you're unable to keep up with all of your payments).

Assuming that you meet those qualifications, let's cover some laws specific to Florida debt settlement, and then we'll recommend some companies to get you started.

Debt Settlement Florida Laws

In FL there are 3 laws that are fairly specific to Florida debt settlement, and in particular these laws make settlement an even better option for those living in the state. They are:

Cease and Desist Laws – Most states do have cease and desist laws, and if you're working with a Florida debt settlement company this likely isn't a concern anyway, but Florida takes the law a little further. In Florida a credit or collection agency may only contact you once a day in regards to the debts you owe.

Homestead Protection Act – In Florida your home is protected against liens from creditors. If you're the head of household, a creditor cannot lien your property to collect on debts owed. This makes it even more likely that your creditors will settle (and often for a better amount), since it reduces the options they have to collect your debts when compared to some other states.

Garnishment Protection Law – In some states creditors can garnish wages or money from bank accounts to collect on debts. In Florida, a creditor cannot contact your employer for money, and any wages that you deposit into your bank account are exempt from garnishment for a period of six months. Again this increases the likelihood that the creditor will settle the debt rather than pursue it.

Best Debt Settlement Florida Companies

Assuming that you have decided that Florida debt settlement is the right option for you, all that's left is to contact a company who can help.

The two companies that we recommend to do so are Curadebt and Credit.com. These companies both have experience in Florida debt settlement, and they are both members of the TASC (The Association Of Settlement Companies).

Since both companies do give 100% free consultations, it may be worth contacting both to keep your options open.

#1 Recommended Debt Settlement Florida Company – Curadebt

Curadebt has been helping consumers (and businesses) save money since 1999. They are a member of the TASC, and they have worked to settle over $250 million in consumer debt since the company was started.

#2 Recommended Debt Settlement Florida Company – Credit.com

Another company that we recommend is Credit.com. The company itself has been in business since 1995, and their personal debt settlement services were added in 2003. Credit.com is a member of the TASC, and they are one of the more experienced settlement companies.
